A square-based pyramid has a square base and four faces that are triangles.

A square-based pyramid has 5 faces, 5 vertices including the apex and 8 edges. To build a square pyramid with construction materials, we would need 4 triangles and one square that join at the edges to make a closed three-dimensional shape or 8 edge pieces and 5 corner pieces to make a frame.

A square-based pyramid can also be called a pentahedron because it has five faces.
